    Wildlife of the Canadian Rockies
(click on thumbnail for full-size image)
We encountered abundant wildlife throughout British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies. In the national parks, the animals seemed (unfortunately) quite used to humans and paid little attention to people peeping at them.

Grizzly bear (!) foraging for food along the dirt road to Bowron Lakes

Moose after taking a swim in half-frozen Maligne Lake near Jasper

Mountain goat walking by the Icefields Parkway

Male Big Horn Sheep sitting in the Maligne Canyon lot

    Female Big Horn Sheep

    Very cute baby Big Horn

Elk were common throughout the Jasper area

    Mule deer

Caribou grazing in seasonally dry Medicine Lake

Local Jasper ground squirrel (notice the little flat tail)

    Chipmunk along the Icefields Parkway

Finally, we saw a black bear and cub, south of Whistler on the way back to Vancouver
