Although we took the wimpy, guided hiking option, making our way through the 33 mile track (mostly in three days) still felt like quite an accomplishment. Best of all, we truly lucked out with the weather having sun on our first two days on flat terrain, cooler clouds and some drizzle the next two as we navigated steeper sections, and finally rain starting just as we finished to ensure full waterfalls for our tour of the sound. The guided option was fantastic with friendly guides, breakfast and dinner cooked for us, nice lodges with comfy beds, and best of all carrying only a day pack for the hike.

DAY 1: After a short hike, we
    relaxed by this mountain stream

    DAY 1-2: Sparkling-clear green
    streams followed us around

DAY 3: Climbing up to the pass,
we caught brief looks at the peaks through thick clouds

DAY 3: View from the top of
    MacKinnon Pass

    DAY 3: More spectacular views
as we head down from the pass

DAY 3: A Weka chick in
    the mountains

DAY 4: The stunningly-beautiful Mackay Falls

    DAY 4: Just another beautiful
    waterfall at our lunch stop

DAY 4: Winding our (tired) way
    down to Milford Sound

DAY 4: We arrive in Milford Sound. This was the view from our room, with Mitre Peak fading into the mist.

    DAY 5: Milford Sound cruise

DAY 5: With the rain, the mountains surrounding the sound were streaming with waterfalls
