We drove down the length of the West Coast from Karamea in the far north down through the glaciers and Haast Pass as the road turns inland. This included some quite diverse territory, beautiful scenery, and of course lots of fun Kiwi activities.

Looking down the coast from the first part of the famed Heaphy Track

Beautifully translucent tea-colored waters tinged from plant tanins
    in the Oparara Basin

Looking out from Metro Cave (near Westport) into the lush vegetation

Fantastic cave formations in the fairly undeveloped Metro Cave

If you look closely, you can see some of the magical glowworms we encountered

While caving, we ran across some
    weta - unique to NZ!

"Land yachting" on the beaches near Westport was an exciting thrill

Layered rocks that make up Pancake Rocks in Punakaiki National Park

    More fantastic rock formations
    at Punakaiki

Franz-Josef (and nearby Fox) Glacier is improbably found only 1000 feet above and 7 miles inland from the sea

    Lake Matheson (near Fox Glacier)
    and its postcard-perfect reflection
